POSSIBILITIES OF SHOTCRETE
The shotcrete has become a more versatile technology capable of solving the most complex tasks of joints concreting without the use of formwork and the application of various mixes to curved and hard-to-get-at surfaces.
Modern shotcrete is a progressive technology, without which it is impossible to imagine the quality repair of reinforced concrete infrastructure, the construction of mines and tunneling, and the main technological processes in metallurgy, cement, and chemical industries. A large international community of dedicated experts works for the benefit of the development of the technology, introducing new opportunities into the shotcrete day by day. Compositions and recipes of shotcrete mixes, the construction of shotcrete equipment are in constant development.
During the USSR, the shotcrete technology was classified as “secret” one because of its wide use for the construction of launching silos, deep mines, and defense facilities. Unlike Russian-speaking countries, the shotcrete was widely used in civil engineering throughout the 20th century in Europe, the United States, and Australia. For example, in the U.S., the shotcrete term is well known to the common man as a technology for the construction of swimming pools. In the civil construction, the shotcrete is used almost everywhere – from soil stabilization in construction pits to decorative applications, such as creating artificial rocks. Special attention should be paid to the method of constructing complex structures by means of shotcrete on one-side formwork, which allows the construction of complex architectural structures without the creation of expensive special formwork.
Due to the high compaction, the shotcrete is a perfect repair mortar for reinforced concrete structures of various kinds. The shotcrete under the repairing concrete is distinguished by good adhesion to the substrate, long-term operation life, and high productivity.
